PASTOR KYRA HAWKINS
Pastor Kyra L. Hawkins, Sr., a native of Dallas, TX, grew up in the vibrant Oak Cliff neighborhood before relocating to DeSoto. A proud graduate of DeSoto High School, home of the “Fighting Eagles,” he found early inspiration within his family's church, First Thompson Missionary Baptist Church, under the guidance of his Uncle, Pastor Darrell W. Pryor. Continuing his spiritual journey at New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Pryor's leadership, he answered the divine call to preach in 2002, obtaining his license that same year and being ordained on January 30, 2005. Seeking to deepen his theological understanding and ministerial skills, Pastor Hawkins enrolled in the Southern Bible Institute Theology program. During his tenure, he distinguished himself as a leader, serving as President of the Theology class, President of the Student Council, and President of the President’s Council. His commitment and dedication were recognized with the esteemed Dr. Harry S. Ironside Student Preacher of the Year Award in 2007. Throughout his journey, Pastor Hawkins has held pivotal roles in various ministries, including transformative experiences as the Adult Men’s Sunday School Teacher and Director of Evangelism. In 2017, Reverend Hawkins was called to pastor the Zion Missionary Baptist Church in the Lake Como area of Fort Worth, TX. With a clear vision to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a world in need by building an authentic relationship with Jesus, he emphasizes the importance of a profound passion for the Gospel among God’s people. Under his leadership, Zion is more than a congregation; it is a community dedicated to seeking Jesus Christ and serving others, where the Gospel permeates every aspect of church life.
